90,000 flowers bloom at Yilan Green Expo; trial operation begins on March 27th, with free admission nationwide for early visitors.

The 2026 Yilan Green Expo is scheduled to be held for 44 days from March 28 to May 10 at Wulaokeng Scenic Area in Suao. Acting County Magistrate Lin Mao-sheng announced today (March 25) that the Green Expo will start its trial operation on March 27, with free admission from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on that day. The scope of admission has been expanded from Yilan County residents to include residents of other counties.

The Green Expo is Yilan County's flagship spring event. This year's theme is "Treasures of Science," symbolizing the pursuit of truth in all things, the acquisition of valuable knowledge, the restoration of the earth amidst climate change, and the protection of species and the preservation of the ocean. The 90,000 flowers planted at the event venue, including begonias, daisies, sage, snapdragons, and coleus, are gradually blooming with pink and red flowers, transforming the area into a large flower garden.

Lin Mao-sheng attended the press conference for the Green Expo's environmental drama "The Fantastic Journey of the Soil Kingdom" in Wulaokeng today. He enjoyed the visual feast of soil ecology integrated into the stage performance and experienced the fun physical activities such as the turtle jump and the human gyroscope. He welcomed people of all ages from all over the country to join in the event.

It's worth mentioning that the Green Expo's trial operation on the 27th was originally only open to Yilan County residents for free. Lin Mao-sheng said that in order to allow more people to experience it firsthand, the opening to residents of all counties and cities was expanded on that day. As for ticket prices after the opening, Yilan County residents pay NT$100, while general visitors pay NT$150 on weekdays and NT$250 on weekends. In addition, from April 20th to 26th is New Taipei City's discount week, during which New Taipei City residents can enjoy the same NT$100 ticket price as Yilan County residents by presenting their identification.

This year's Green Expo features 18 sustainability zones and 19 fun and engaging activities. Each sustainability zone has its own unique characteristics. For example, "Azure Pulse" uses images and specimen models to introduce visitors to the mysterious trident fish, anglerfish, and the apex predator, the false killer whale.
